The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, announced the arrest of 31 suspected drug peddlers and the recovery of over 10kg of illicit drugs in Kano.
This information was contained in a statement released to news outlets by the agency’s spokesman, ASN Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, on Friday in Kano.
According to him, the arrests were made on Nov. 7, 2024, as part of a bold initiative to combat drug trafficking and related crimes under the leadership of the State Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad.
“Out of the 31 suspects, 25 were apprehended in the Filin Idi area on Thursday, a hotspot known for drug dealing and other social vices, including phone snatching and violent thuggery.
The remaining six suspects were arrested at a construction site in Danagundi, Kano.
The statement indicated that all the suspects are male.
It also mentioned that the Command successfully recovered over 10kg of assorted illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, diazepam, Exol, “suck and die,” rubber solution, pregabalin, and locally produced weapons.
“The NDLEA’s efforts to dismantle this network have yielded significant results, ensuring a safer environment for Kano residents.
“This coordinated operation demonstrates the Command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes in the state.
“By continuing to disrupt drug trafficking networks and apprehend suspects, the Command is sending a strong message that drug-related crimes will not be tolerated in Kano State,” the statement added.
