The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has denounced the purported suspension of its Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, describing the action as illegal, null and void.
The party stated this in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the NWC condemned in strong terms the alleged suspension, saying it was misplaced, undemocratic and of no effect whatsoever.
The party recalled that some executive members of the NNPP in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, had allegedly announced the suspension of Dungurawa.
It said the action amounted to gross anti-party activity, as it violated the provisions of the NNPP constitution.
“The National Working Committee wishes to state clearly that the purported suspension is an illegality and cannot stand,” the statement said.
The NWC reaffirmed that only constitutionally recognised party organs had the authority to discipline elected party officials.
The party also praised Dungurawa, describing him as a conscientious, hardworking and dutiful chairman whose leadership had contributed significantly to the growth and progress of the NNPP in Kano State.
It urged party members to abide by the party’s constitution and internal democratic processes to avoid actions capable of undermining unity and stability within the party.
