Police invite Warkal over alleged unlawful display of firearm

The Kano State Police Command has invited Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal for questioning over an alleged unlawful display of firearm during a political gathering.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Kano.

Kiyawa said the command, during routine cyber patrol, came across a video circulating on social media platforms showing Warkal openly displaying what appeared to be a pump-action rifle.

He said the alleged display, if established, could constitute a violation of the provisions of the Firearms Act.

According to him, such an act is capable of causing fear, intimidating members of the public and breaching public peace and security.

He said the invitation was made on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori.

“The said Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal was invited to the Command Headquarters, Bompai, Kano, and is currently at the Command’s State Intelligence Department (SID), where investigation is in progress,” he said.

The PPRO quoted the commissioner as warning that the command would not tolerate any act of lawlessness, thuggery or display of weapons capable of threatening public peace, irrespective of the status of the person involved.

He advised political gladiators, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and abide by the Electoral Act, Firearms Act and other extant laws.

Kiyawa said the command remained committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that Kano remained peaceful before, during and after the political season.
