The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has expressed its commitment to fostering a stronger partnership with the media, emphasizing the vital role of journalists in promoting public security and building trust between citizens and security agencies.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the newly elected executive members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, led by Chairman Murtala Adewale, to the NSCDC State Command Headquarters in Kano.
Welcoming the delegation, the NSCDC Commandant, Dr. Shafi’u Abdulmumini, described the media as a crucial stakeholder in the Corps’ mission to protect lives and property.
He noted that open engagement with journalists was essential in combating misinformation, raising public awareness, and fostering citizen collaboration in security efforts.
“We see the media as critical stakeholders in our work,” the Commandant said. “Your role in shaping public perception and disseminating timely and accurate information cannot be overemphasized. Partnership with journalists is not optional—it is necessary for effective security operations.”
Dr. Abdulmumini assured the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NSCDC’s unwavering support for a collaborative relationship aimed at strengthening information sharing and ensuring transparent, people-centered security service delivery.
Earlier, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Murtala Adewale, said the visit was part of the Chapel’s familiarization tour to key institutions in the state. He commended the NSCDC for its professionalism and for maintaining cordial ties with the press over the years.
“We are here not just to familiarize ourselves with the command, but to explore how we can deepen our working relationship,” Mr. Adewale stated.
“It is time we move beyond the routine of issuing press statements. We want to sit together, engage meaningfully, and collectively chart the way forward for the progress of our state.”
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the media and security agencies in ensuring accurate reportage, promoting public sensitization, and tackling misinformation.
The visit featured an interactive session during which both parties exchanged ideas on enhancing synergy, improving communication channels, and supporting initiatives that contribute to peace and development in Kano State.
The Correspondents’ Chapel reaffirmed its readiness to support the NSCDC in its public awareness campaigns and security advocacy efforts through professional, responsible journalism.
