The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano State Command has partnered with the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) to sensitise its personnel on the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
This was contained in a statement issued by the NDLEA Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, on Thursday in Kano.
Maigatari said the sensitisation programme, titled “Drug Abuse Awareness and Response Strategy: Promoting a Safe and Healthy Work Environment,” was held at the KAROTA headquarters and attended by over 97 personnel, including the Managing Director, Engr. Faisal Mahmud, and other directors.
He said the initiative, spearheaded by the Commander of the Kano State Strategic Command, CN AI Ahmad, aimed to promote safe driving practices and address the growing issue of substance abuse among KEKE NAPEP riders in the state.
According to him, the lecture was delivered by Musa Sani Bakori, Assistant Commander of Narcotics and representative of the Commander.
He addressed critical issues surrounding the effects of drug abuse on personnel, strategies for handling addiction cases, and the importance of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle to ensure effective performance in their duties.
“Mr Bakori also provided insights into proper procedures for managing drug-related situations while on duty and emphasized the need for synergy and intelligence sharing between KAROTA and NDLEA to enhance public safety and operational success,” he said.
The statement quoted Mahmud as expressing gratitude to NDLEA for its commitment to safety and security in the state, while highlighting the importance of continuous training programmes for KAROTA personnel to ensure optimal performance.
Maigatari added that the collaboration underscored the commitment of both agencies to create a safer environment for all road users and tackle the challenges posed by drug abuse in the community.
