Al-Istiqama University, located in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano, has donated two motorcycles to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to enhance its operations against drug abuse.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Spokesman of the NDLEA Kano Command, ASN Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, on Saturday in Kano.
The statement revealed that the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Shehu, presented the motorcycles when the State Commander of the agency, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, paid a courtesy visit to the university.
“The visit was part of the Command’s continued efforts to sensitize university students and the surrounding communities on the dangers of illicit substances, with the goal of preventing their use,” the statement said.
Prof. Shehu stated that the donation was made on behalf of the university’s founder, Sen. Abdurrahman Kawu-Sumaila, as part of the institution’s commitment to supporting the fight against drug abuse.
“The donation will significantly enhance the NDLEA’s surveillance and operational capabilities in Sumaila and its surrounding areas,” he added.
He also commended the NDLEA for their prompt responses to calls and their successful operations in apprehending drug peddlers around the campus.
In response, the Kano State NDLEA Commander, Idris-Ahmad, expressed gratitude to the university for the donation.
Represented by the NDLEA Wudil Area Commander, ACN Sadiya Ahmad-Dogara, he noted that the agency’s officers would intensify efforts to combat illicit drugs and drug abuse not only within the university but also throughout Sumaila Local Government Area and the Wudil Area Command.
He further emphasized that the collaboration marks a crucial step in the fight against drug-related issues, ensuring a safer and healthier environment for students and the wider community.
