The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested four suspected illicit drug dealers in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commandant of NSCDC, Mohammed Hassan-Agalama, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, on Monday in Kano.
Hassan-Agalama said the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), based at Dorayi Babba in Gwale Local Government Area, following credible intelligence.
He identified the suspects as Abubakar Abdullahi, 35; Rabiu Baffa, 25; Aminu Lawan, 35; and Ibrahim Idris, 33, all residents of Gaida in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The commandant said the operation was conducted as part of the Corps’ efforts to disrupt activities associated with the illegal distribution and abuse of controlled substances.
He said operatives recovered four sachets of Pregabalin 300mg capsules, popularly known as “PG”, from the suspects.
According to him, dozens of Diazepam tablets, locally referred to as “Fara”, were also recovered during the operation.
Hassan-Agalama added that three tubes of Oshin Solution, also known as “Sholisho”, were among the exhibits recovered from the suspects.
He said operatives also recovered three big packs and 20 parcels of suspected marijuana from the suspects during the arrest.
The commandant cautioned members of the public, particularly youths, against the illegal sale, distribution and abuse of illicit drugs, describing drug abuse as a serious threat to public safety, security and societal wellbeing.
Hassan-Agalama said the suspects and recovered exhibits would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Command, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
He reiterated the NSCDC command’s commitment to collaborating with sister security agencies and other stakeholders to combat drug-related offences.
He urged residents to provide credible information on suspected illicit drug activities, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
