Kano Police Constitute Committee to Investigate Emir Sanusi’s Palace Attack

The Kano State Police Command has constituted an eight-man panel of inquiry to investigate the recent clash between supporters of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the 16th Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while receiving the new executives of the Kano State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), who paid him a courtesy visit.

According to CP Bakori, the committee is tasked with uncovering both the remote and immediate causes of the confrontation, identifying those responsible, and recommending appropriate actions.

He said the panel was inaugurated on Monday and is expected to submit its report within seven days.

The incident occurred on Sunday when a group of individuals, reportedly loyal to Emir Sanusi, allegedly blocked the road at Kofar Kudu to prevent Emir Bayero’s convoy from passing as he returned to the Nassarawa mini palace after paying a condolence visit to the family of late business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata.

The confrontation reportedly led to injuries among palace guards, destruction of the palace’s main gate, and damage to police vehicles stationed at the palace.

Eyewitnesses say the prompt intervention of security personnel helped avert what could have been a more serious and violent escalation.

In the aftermath, the police confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, stated that the suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.

During the visit, CP Bakori assured the visiting journalists of the Command’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the media in advancing community policing efforts.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Correspondents Murtala Adewale informed CP Bakori that, the visit was aimed at cementing the existing relationship with the Police.
