The Katsina State Government has endorsed the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine, set to be introduced by the Federal Government, the state government and development partners in October.
Gov. Dikko Radda announced this in Katsina on Wednesday during an advocacy campaign launch on the introduction of the measles-rubella vaccine.
Radda, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba-Faskari, said the measles-rubella vaccine provides safe and effective protection.
“Measles and Rubella infections are highly contagious diseases that can cause deafness, blindness, heart defects, brain damage, and even death in children.
“I therefore urge all parents, guardians, and caregivers to ensure that children aged from nine months to 15 years receive this lifesaving vaccine during the campaign.
“Vaccination not only protects our children, but also strengthens our economy and healthcare system,” the Governor said.
Radda added that in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, his government was committed to making these vaccines available and accessible.
He further called on the traditional rulers, religious leaders, health workers, and community influencers to support this campaign and ensure full coverage.
In her remarks, the governor’s wife, Hajiya Zulaihat Radda, said the vaccine has been proven to be highly effective in preventing measles and rubella, two diseases that could have devastating consequences for the children.
She said that the MR vaccine was a safe and reliable way to protect children from these diseases.
“By vaccinating our children, we are not only safeguarding their health, but also ensuring that they can grow to reach their full potential.
As a mother and a leader in this great state, I urge all parents and caregivers to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their children.
“When the campaign commences in October, I encourage you to bring your children to the vaccination centres and ensure they receive the MR vaccine.
She explained that the benefits of the MR vaccine were many, as it would protect children from measles and rubella, prevent disabilities and complications associated with these diseases.
“It will also reduce the risk of outbreaks and epidemics in our communities, and contribute to the overall health and well-being of our children,” the governor’s wife said.
She assured that the state government was deeply committed to the success of this campaign.
According to her, as part of the policy of the State Government’s Renewed Agenda, the government had placed the health and well-being of the citizens, especially children at the forefront of its priorities.
“We recognise that our children are the future leaders of our state, and their safety is our top concern”, the wife of the governor added.
She said, “To this end, we have ensured that the relevant authorities have implemented strict measures to guarantee the safe administration of the vaccine and provide our children with the best possible care.”
